Guildford Heat’s head coach, Creon Raftopoulos has signed David Schneider, who was crowned William & Mary College’s Most Valuable Player in 2010. Amongst his string of accolades whilst playing at William & Mary College in Virginia, David was also named Most Valuable Player by CollegeInsider.com CAA and won the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award (2010), “given to the men’s basketball student-athlete in the CAA who “embodies the highest standards of leadership, integrity and sportsmanship in conjunction with his academic athletic achievement.” Creon Raftopoulos commented, “David is one of only two players in William & Mary’s history with 1,400 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists in his career. He has been an exceptional player for his team, which he also captained. “I was keen to sign him as he has a proven track record in controlling the game but can also deliver big shots when needed. He is a high percentage three point shooter. In fact, he is the William & Mary College’s career leader in 3-pointers.” Coach Creon was particularly impressed by the fact that during the last season, Shneider, age 23, delivered strong performances when playing against some of the bigger American University teams. He finished his season by scoring 21 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and 1 steal against North Carolina in a nationally televised game. David Schneider commented, “I come from a strong basketball family — my grandfather, father and older brother all played for their colleges and I started playing basketball as soon as I learned to walk. I have always been passionate about the sport and feel priveleged to be able to play at a professional level. As a high scoring point guard, who can also rebound, I feel I have a lot to offer to the Heat and I am looking forward to playing with the team, being coached by Creon and meeting the Heat supporters.”
